Tympanic Epidermosis: A Noncholesteatomatous Keratinizing Entity of Chronic Otitis Media
نویسندگان
چکیده
294 Objective: Keratin in the middle ear cavity is usually associated with the diagnosis of cholesteatoma currently explained by 3 mechanisms in the literature: retraction, squamous metaplasia and immigration. But different pathogenetic mechanisms cannot result in the same disease. The objective of this study is to show that immigration of the keratinizing epithelium of the tympanic membrane into the middle ear yields a specific entity, tympanic epidermosis.

Therapeutic Mastoidectomy in the Management of Noncholesteatomatous Chronic Otitis Media: Literature Review and Cost Analysis.
OBJECTIVE Despite evidence that therapeutic mastoidectomy does not improve outcomes in noncholesteatomatous chronic otitis media, it remains widely performed. An up-to-date systematic review is undertaken and conclusions drawn regarding the best evidence-based practice of its management. DATA SOURCES PubMed, Google Scholar, Medline Embase, Cochrane, and Web of Science. REVIEW METHOD A combi...
متن کاملMAST CELLS IN THE TYMPANIC PART OF THE FACIAL NERVE IN CHRONIC OTITIS MEDIA WITHOUT ASSOCIATED FACIAL PARALYSIS
The occurrence of mast cells is studied in the normal facial nerve and in the facial nerve post mortem exam of patients with chronic suppurative otitis media without associated facial paralysis. A small number of mast cells were found in the normal facial nerve. These cells were usually located in close proximity to the endoneural and epineural blood vessels. The number of mast cells was i...
متن کاملMorphology and Biochemistry of the Tympanic Membrane in Relation to Retraction Pathology
Otitis media is very common during childhood and may predispose for tympanic membrane (TM) pathology later in life. Therefore, it is important to investigate the possible changes in TMs subjected to otitis media. There is evidence of a relationship between previous otitis media and TM retraction disease. A weakening of the collagen fibers, that form the backbone of the TM, is a prerequisite for...
متن کاملChronic silent otitis media.
Otitis media occurs along a continuum. For example, otitis media with effusion characterized by fluid pathology can lead to chronic otitis media plus chronic mastoiditis, characterized by the presence of intractable tissue pathology such as cholesteatoma, cholesterol granuloma or granulation tissue. The literature defines chronic otitis media as having a tympanic membrane perforation and otorrh...
متن کاملThe effect of naproxen sodium on experimental otitis media.
OBJECTIVES We evaluated the effect of naproxen sodium on propylene glycol-induced otitis media in guinea pig ears. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty adult guinea pigs were randomized to the study and control groups equal in number. A single dose of propylene glycol (0.2 ml, 60%) was applied to the left ears of the control group and to both ears of the study group. Saline solution was applied to th...
